Fridge & Freezer Repairs

A fridge or freezer that stops working properly puts your food — and your budget — at risk. We repair single and double-door fridges, side-by-side and French-door models, bar fridges, and upright and chest freezers in your home.

About this service

How we approach fridge and freezer repairs

Most refrigeration faults fall into four groups: the cooling system (compressor, start relay, condenser fan), the airflow inside the cabinet (evaporator fan and vents), the defrost system on frost-free models (heater, defrost thermostat or timer), and the controls (thermostat, temperature sensors and electronic boards).

Different faults can cause exactly the same symptom — a warm fridge section with a cold freezer, for example — so we test the components instead of guessing. You’ll know what failed and why, and you’re only quoted for the parts that actually need replacing.

If the problem is in the sealed refrigerant system, we’ll explain what’s involved and whether the repair makes sense for the fridge’s age and condition before anything goes ahead.

Common problems

Fridge and freezer faults we see most often

The symptom points us in the right direction — testing confirms the cause.

  • 01

    Fridge warm, freezer still cold

Common on frost-free models. Usually an iced-up evaporator caused by a defrost fault, or an evaporator fan that has stopped.

  • 02

    Not cooling at all

The compressor may not be starting — often a failed start relay or overload, thermostat or control-board fault.

  • 03

Ice building up in the freezer

Points to the defrost heater, defrost thermostat or timer — or a damaged door seal letting moist air in.

  • 04

Water on the floor or inside

A blocked defrost drain or cracked drip tray is the usual culprit; on side-by-sides, check the water-dispenser line.

  • 05

    Running constantly or very noisy

Dirty condenser coils, a failing condenser or evaporator fan motor, or worn compressor mounts.

  • 06

    Seals, lights and displays

Torn door gaskets, faulty door switches and control panels that stop responding.

Before you book

Check the plug and wall switch, make sure the thermostat hasn’t been turned down, that food isn’t blocking the vents inside, and that the fridge has space behind it to release heat. If it smells of burning or trips the power, switch it off.

The repair process

What happens when we repair your fridge

  1. Check the symptoms

We measure fridge and freezer temperatures and listen to the compressor and fans while it runs.

  2. Test the components

Start relay, thermostat, fans, defrost heater and sensors are tested with a meter — not replaced on a hunch.

  3. Explain and quote

You get the fault and the price in plain language. Nothing goes ahead until you approve it.

  4. Repair

Faulty parts are replaced and connections checked.

  5. Run and confirm

We confirm the cooling cycle starts and explain how long your model needs to reach normal temperature.

FAQ

Fridge and freezer repairs: your questions answered

Still unsure? Send us the details or a WhatsApp with a photo of the problem.

It depends on the model and how full it is. It usually starts cooling within a few minutes, but many manufacturers advise allowing up to 24 hours to reach normal operating temperature.

Keep the doors closed. US Department of Agriculture food-safety guidance is that a closed fridge keeps food cold for about 4 hours, and a full freezer holds its temperature for about 48 hours (about 24 hours if half full).

Often, yes — relays, thermostats, fans and door seals are usually affordable. If the compressor or sealed system has failed on an older fridge, replacement can be the better option. We’ll give you the numbers so you can decide.

Yes. Freezers share most of their components with fridges, and we diagnose and repair them the same way.
