Tumble Dryer Repairs
Vented, condenser and heat-pump tumble dryers. If yours runs but won’t heat, won’t turn, or leaves the washing damp after a full cycle, we’ll find out why.
About this service
How we approach tumble dryer repairs
A tumble dryer depends on three things working together: heat, airflow and tumbling. Heating elements, thermal fuses and thermostats produce and control the heat; the fan, lint filter and vent or condenser move the moist air out; and the motor, belt and drum rollers keep the load turning.
Restricted airflow is behind a large share of dryer complaints. A blocked filter, vent hose or condenser makes drying slow and can make the dryer overheat and trip its safety cut-out — so we always check the airflow before replacing heating parts.
Safety matters with dryers. If you notice a burning smell, unplug the dryer and stop using it until it has been checked.

Common problems
Tumble dryer faults we see most often
The symptom points us in the right direction — testing confirms the cause.
- 01
Runs but no heat
A failed heating element, blown thermal fuse or faulty thermostat. On vented models, a blocked vent can trip the cut-out.
- 02
Drum not turning
If the motor hums but the drum stays still, the drive belt has usually snapped or slipped off.
- 03
Takes far too long to dry
A blocked lint filter or vent hose, a full water container or dirty condenser, or a faulty moisture sensor.
- 04
Squeaking or thumping
Worn drum rollers or bearings, a tired idler pulley or a damaged drum felt seal.
- 05
Won’t start
Door switch, start switch, thermal fuse or control-board faults.
- 06
Overheating or burning smell
Usually an airflow restriction. Stop using the dryer until it has been inspected.
Clean the lint filter after every load. A blocked filter makes drying slow and is a fire risk. On condenser dryers, empty the water container and rinse the condenser as your manual recommends.

The repair process
What happens when we repair your tumble dryer
Check airflow first
Filter, vent hose or condenser unit are inspected for blockages.
Test the heat circuit
Element, thermal fuse and thermostats are tested for continuity.
Inspect the drive
Belt, rollers, idler pulley and motor are checked for wear.
Explain and quote
You approve the price before any parts are fitted.
Repair and heat test
We run the dryer to confirm it heats, turns and switches off correctly.
Why choose CLEARFIX
Why customers book CLEARFIX for tumble dryer repairs

Dryers are diagnosed and repaired where they’re installed.
FAQ
Tumble dryer repairs: your questions answered
Still unsure? Send us the details or a WhatsApp with a photo of the problem.
The heat is there but the moist air isn’t leaving — usually a blocked filter, vent hose or condenser, or a faulty moisture sensor ending the cycle early.
It isn’t recommended. The hose carries hot, moist, lint-filled air out of the room. Without it you’ll get condensation and lint build-up indoors. Follow the installation instructions in your manual.
Check your manual — most condenser dryers have a removable condenser unit that needs rinsing regularly. A clogged condenser is a common cause of slow drying.
It can be the thermal cut-out protecting the dryer from overheating, which usually points to an airflow problem. Book a check rather than keep restarting it.
